I used to be @JohnHackworth in the dead bird site. I'm still @jv in the crabs and chaos hellsite (affectionate).
Engineer at Yoast. Before, I used to work at Tumblr, at WordPress.com and a bunch of other things.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Tumblr culture, today is the most important celebration of the year over there.
More than half of the posts in my tumblr timeline right now are about the final demise of a certain Julius Caesar back on March 15th of 44 BCE.
Happy ides of march, everyone.

Sharing here this analysis of the Tumblr staff post calling out the CEO behavior, because it's a great run down. The post is a masterpiece of corporate politics (warfare?) and it entangles Mullenweg in a way that him not complying with their requests would pretty much demolish the entire careful image he has been crafting for years

Also, I'm usually more "MM is so detached from reality that is laughable", but as someone who he personally decided to lay off last year, reading him saying that it was for my own good makes me go all "fuck you, Matt, you are a terrible person".
If you were surprised by the amtrak-official post at Tumblr, wait until you see other official Tumblr accounts
Tumblr is a block party today (after the news about Kissinger broke out)
About one each three posts in my dashboard is either Bourdain's quote or caps from the rolling stone article

I may haver never mentioned it here, but I have been playing with a firefish fork for the last few weeks, trying to make a fediverse-based tumblr-like site.

A lot of the UI and data model changes I wanted to make are already there, and now I'm entering the "I need to actually make my server federate with other servers" and the feeling is [dog-jpg-I-have-no-idea-of-what-i'm-doing]

(Thank you Matt for giving my post a first-hand source so promptly)

Automattic's Blind channel is on fire talking about the team they unexpectedly laid off two days ago. For what it had surfaced, it looks like they got the same treatment I go. And about the attached question, that's the only bit of answer I managed to get from HR when I was trying to understand why they were kicking me out: I asked if I could speak with Matt to try to understand what was going on, but they refused, and told me he had been directly involved in the decision of laying me off.
