@beach Your first assumption is incorrect. I donāt want to get drunk. I choose alcohol free beer over a soft drink because I really like the taste of it. I donāt like sweet tasting drinks much, and water can be too bland.
And no; it feels good to be able to stay sober.
The nuance here is *once you start* drinking alcohol then it becomes moreish. It makes you want more of it. But I never crave that effect when Iām sober.
@Thayer We have a dumb situation here. Upp Broadband rolled out Gigabit fiber (to the house) to our town, which we have. Now they are being bought out by Virgin but V are saying we can only get internet over copper. Our phone line was physically disconnected so š¤·āāļø. Rival fiber broadband company Lightspeed say they cannot supply us. EE say we might be able to get 150mbit *when they roll out fiber to our street*.
So looks like a step backwards. Way to go UK infrastructure š¤¦āāļø
@beach Wanting to drink more beer is absolutely down to alcohol. Its base effect for me is as something that says "have more of me", "have another". And wanting more is wanting MORE of the effect of alcohol, not less.
It feels pointless to want to drink more when there's nothing in it. Much like I think it would be weird to want more than about 2 pints of any liquid in a sober situation, unless you were extremely thirsty. The thirst instinct is sated so you stop.

Medical ethicists alarmed by Musk being "sole source of information" on patient.
Finally after a year of actually doing therapy for tech folks, I got round to adding my official "Therapy" section to my website, woo! > https://www.team-prime.com/therapy
If you ever want to talk, I'm here to listen.
Furthermore: I donāt consider myself to have quit, just havenāt had the urge. I am still looking forward to a glass of wine or a beer as and when it feels like a justified occasion, rather than it being the default thing to do alone at home on a random weekday night.
AKA If Iām going to get a hangover then it better be worth it. e.g. At a shop opening with fizz a few weeks ago, wasnāt particularly close to anyone there but had to show my face for an hour. Why get drunk?
Still had no alcohol since 30 December. Encouragingly, via the gift of 0% beers, I have discovered I enjoy a beer at least as much as I need(ed?) the alcohol in that beer. Genuinely enjoying and feeling satisfied by drinking one or two 0% beers and now without that automatic alcohol-brain-nag to reach for a third one (becomes 5?, 6?, 8?).
Yes: Lucky me, I know itās REALLY not that easy for everyone.
