Very good summary of upcoming Microsoft changes, which will require careful planning
Twitter is going on a binge of suspending journalists who cover it. I'm not sure what they (or Musk) thinks this will achieve, since you don't need a Twitter account to see what's happening on the platform or to report on it.
It seems to be just impulsive petulance.
I have a story I've never told told about the of hubris of ignorance. My own.
It was ~2001, I was a preteen playing Starsiege Tribes. And somebody accused someone else of using auto-aim.
I lambasted them, saying the bandwidth and processing required to analyze video for that to work was impossible. That external input could never respond in real-time to make that possible.
Of course, it wasn't~impossible~. My mental model of how to accomplish that was ingestion of a video signal, instead of hooking into the program and sending weapon signals at the precise address of the user's character.
I was completely utterly wrong. But it was joyful to be so.
I remember how viscerally confident I felt typing those messages, bathed in the superiority of my cognition and knowledge in comparison to theirs. I thought I knew. Under the central bridge of the map "Raindance."
But I didn't. I was a child talking outside their remit. I wouldn't understand for years.
And in the most pleasurable debate moments of my life, especially earlier in my 20's, dunking on the idiots – I felt an ascendent joy.
While being wrong.
Because absolute confidence is often simply opium for fools. And conditional knowledge is doubtful guessing to the dense.
Dear #Microsoft #Outlook
If your algorithm can detect that this looks like a #phish, then WTF is it doing in my #FocusedInbox ? Put this in my damn Junk folder so I don't need to pay attention to it!
Further to this, since Elmo's takeover, every single trending topic seems to be overrun with porn.
Now normally porn doesn't bother me, but I'm used to browsing twatter (prob a more apt name tbh) during work. But that's becoming impossible due to the proliferation of NSFW stuff there.
Which is one of the great things about Mastodon, and the community here actively using CW and marking media as sensitive. I've not once yet to run into an unmarked NSFW post, which makes using this in work poss.
Man, every time I wander over to the birdsite, I get the feeling as though I were reading something like Gab or Parler.
It's an indescribable icky, uncomfortable feeling, like I'm somewhere I'm not meant to be.
Glad to know that Mastodon is my social networking home now, especially #Hachyderm 😀
The community on this instance is lovely, and the admin, Kris Nova (not tagging her in as she's on hols atm) does a fantastic job alongside her mod team 👍
