@leo they did announce yesterday they were aware and were actively working to stop the deliberate spam bot attack against their server. They noted they were temporarily activating account approval while working on this.
Many instances were choosing to block them temporarily due to the massive spam attack campaign.
Not seen where things stand for them yet.

Eugen RochkoWe're aware of the spam attack hitting mastodon.social right now and our full moderation and DevOps teams are on the case mitigating any way we can (incl. switching to approval-mode registrations)

I think the obstinate extremists creating these demands are trying to discredit or crash the "Big Government" and will not care the repercussions. Seems like they are trying to create a failure including another downgrading of the US credit rating again. (Just my opinion. )

Cute. Yeah, if you are having problems creating that much static, do what we computer hardware geeks do and look into grounding strip like items such as grounding computer wrist pads and grounding mouse pads.

Indeed I feel you may be correct. I too increased my support last month feeling I can do better at this point in my life especially after learning of their supporting budget falling the last last two+ years. Local stations receive something like federal underwriting, and many areas need that, but I cannot think that affects their reporting decisions. I have been impressed for years with NPR and our public radio station. They perform a great public service and they deserve our support.

Remember that a good chunck (like a 3rd) of their funding comes from member "radio" stations paying for NPR programs. So it is not surprising some of the podcasts were cute or suffered... not all cut staff were podcast staff, so more jobs were lost than just podcasts.
Their budget was hurt with less corporate support and sponsors so let's help by donating to our local public radio station and even some with NPR Plus now.

This hasn’t happened since December 2022.
@mmasnick predicted that Elon Musk’s new Twitter Blue policies would result in another Mastodon migration, and it looks like he’s right.
Once Twitter effectively becomes “pay to play”, Mastodon suddenly becomes more appealing.

Google/Nest Display feature specifically you may love added in the last year or so..
While a "Timer" is chiming or alerting you it is over, the microphone is now on listening for additional "hot" words and you can simply say "Stop" at the display.
