@tolmasky 🤭

True. But that's true of every big fandom.

Google's been doing *wildly* unethical things for years, and most nerds never called them out because they made great tech, it worked well, and we liked the nerdy ethos that the founders had.

Like Apple, that ethos left a long time ago, but it's hard for us to stop believing it. We *want* to believe, because we're fans!

@[email protected] What amazes me is how hard it is to get people to realize that. They act nicer and are generally sneakier as they lock people in with their platform and tons of extra costs tacked onto even the simplest things (I mean, come on, the charger cables alone should be a dead giveaway!) but people will defend them to the death acting like they're the greatest.

Definitely true. In my tired, non-glasses state when I'm hitting that new Snooze button, I'm terrified that I'm going to accidentally hit Stop instead. It's SO close.

I never had that fear with the old layout.

@marcoarment @caseyliss Carrot on top of it as always!
@vibhurishi @daringfireball I agree, which is why I use “Reader” view in Ice Cubes app. Highly recommend.
@daringfireball fantastic essay; thank you for taking the time to craft!
.@tolmasky this is the correct take. Apple at its best surprises and delights. I suppose Apple Intelligence notifications got it half right?
@tolmasky these are excellent points. Strongly concur!
@tolmasky 25 year high school math teacher here. At least where I work, it’s gone down. It’s also become a much smaller percentage of their overall grade. Beware confirmation bias. We’re not even allowed to collect HW on Mondays (or assess on Mondays). YMMV.
