We are the Not Real Radio Enjoyers of Earth. We're a small club dedicated to ham radio operation and experimentation, especially with modes "some people" declare are NOT REAL RADIO.

This account is run by Mike, KY4LV.

As I play around with #gopher more, I keep looking for browsers that can support it natively. Retrozilla does so entirely by accident, it seems.

Once I started playing around with Retrozilla some more, I discovered it had the Chatzilla IRC client installed. I keep a hyperlink to my IRC channel on my website, so I figured what the hell, I'll try it on Retrozilla.

Sure enough it logs into the IRC server and gets into my channel as intended. What an absolute delight.

I've been playing with Mystic #BBS lately. Super easy to set up and get running. I still don't know what I'm going to do with it, but I wanted to know how a real BBS worked before moving into a BPQ packet BBS.

I missed out on a lot of classic computing when I was a kid due to growing up broke. I'm catching up now :)

Hey pals, I have a neat update for you all. My #gopher server has been up for a while and I finally migrated it to a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. Want to know more? Well I wrote a phlog post about it on gopher://w4nrr.servebeer.com

I finally got around to submitting our log for Winter Field Day 2026. I operated much less than I hoped. The weather had me spending most of the weekend doing actual emergency preparedness, so that's a win in a difference sense.

I also run the @WFDA account so I won't do anything weird like thanking myself for putting on the event.

However, we do put a lot of effort into being an emergency-focused event that almost any ham can benefit from. I hope you check it out if you haven't already.

I finally started working on a gopher server. I'm not sure if I'm motivated enough to DDNS it to the outside world yet.

This relates to not real radio because my ultimate goal is to have a gopher server accessible through a packet connection on HF.

Our website at https://notreal.radio/ has gotten a makeover. I got sick of WordPress templates that had tons of garbage and limited customization. The new site is a basic, static one, built in HTML and CSS by me.

My cats told me I needed to take special care of them in this weather. Instead of heading out into the woods for WFD, I'm staying home to operate. Listen for W4NRR on the air!

I've been asked a lot lately about how to run JS8Call for Winter Field Day. I made a guide that should help

We are proud to announce that we have partnered with the Online Amateur Radio Community Ireland (EI2OARC) to transmit the Winter Field Day Bulletin in Europe!

Our Irish partners have a callsign just for the event: EI0WFD

Not only will they transmit the WFD Bulletin, but they'll be available for contacts afterward. This is a huge step toward making Winter Field Day the international event we've always wanted it to be.

You'll see updates here and on their QRZ page at:
