We are the Not Real Radio Enjoyers of Earth. We're a small club dedicated to ham radio operation and experimentation, especially with modes "some people" declare are NOT REAL RADIO.

This account is run by Mike, KY4LV.

I finally got around to submitting our log for Winter Field Day 2026. I operated much less than I hoped. The weather had me spending most of the weekend doing actual emergency preparedness, so that's a win in a difference sense.

I also run the @WFDA account so I won't do anything weird like thanking myself for putting on the event.

However, we do put a lot of effort into being an emergency-focused event that almost any ham can benefit from. I hope you check it out if you haven't already.

I finally started working on a gopher server. I'm not sure if I'm motivated enough to DDNS it to the outside world yet.

This relates to not real radio because my ultimate goal is to have a gopher server accessible through a packet connection on HF.

My cats told me I needed to take special care of them in this weather. Instead of heading out into the woods for WFD, I'm staying home to operate. Listen for W4NRR on the air!
I'm going to do so much #notrealradio with this thing. I really didn't *need* another shack-in-a-box but I couldn't help myself.

Playing around with my new QDX tonight. I was extremely lazy, so I connected my QDX to the 2m J-pole in the attic and reported the spots to PSKReporter so I could map them with ease.

I'm blessed with a low noise floor and high relative altitude so I got some very cool reports, some as far away as Brazil and Manitoba.

My completed QDX build from QRP Labs, from populated PCB to enclosed and running in my backyard. My master plan is to set this QDX up with a Raspberry Pi, solar charging, and a wire antenna to create a 24/7 JS8 monitoring station.
I just built a @qrplabs QDX (I'll post pics of the build soon) and tested it on some low bands. I used a base-loaded 1/4 wave vertical in my back yard. Obviously it works adequately. This bad boy can fit so much #NotRealRadio in it.
