Have you ever wanted a clean, scalable SVG map? We've developed a SVG map renderer that can also be used as a MapLibre plugin.

Try it out by clicking the button in the top right-hand corner of this page: https://versatiles.org/versatiles-svg-renderer/demo/

Symbols and text are not yet supported, but contributions are welcome!

I've updated our interactive "Server Setup Guide" to help you quickly and easily set up your own map server:
- locally or remote
- on Linux, Mac or Windows
- use map data covering just your city, a region or the whole world
- OpenStreetMap data and/or satellite imagery
- choose one of three frontends

All EU countries are required to publish orthoimagery as open data (INSPIRE Directive).
Austria also provides orthophotos under a CC-BY licence:

Unfortunately, we have encountered issues with their data as their coordinate system is inverted, preventing GDAL from processing it:

Hopefully, we can resolve these issues in the next iteration.
Datenkatalog BEV

Der Suchdienst des Bundesamtes fuer Eich- und Vermessungswesen (BEV) liefert alle Metadatensaetze des Kataloges data.bev.gv.at aus.

Free satellite imagery for 11 EU countries — now live on our open tile server!

Yes, there are still a lot of bugs, but we can work on improving them step by step.

VersaTiles

In order to prepare the map and download servers for worldwide satellite and orthoimagery, I need to migrate some of our infrastructure. Unfortunately, this may result in brief outages over the next 1-2 days, but I will try to keep these to a minimum.
We are at #39C3. 🖖
Get in touch if you'd like to meet and talk about VersaTiles.
Two new experimental updates:
1. The latest map data now includes 11 languages!
2. We have developed a new 'Maplibre VersaTiles Styler' tool to help you create map styles interactively.
You can test both features here: https://tiles.versatiles.org/
@jomo I therefore use the correct terminology internally, for example in the code and documentation, and on GitHub, but use more common descriptions publicly, for example on social media.
Does this make sense?
@jomo I see it exactly the same way as you do. From a technical perspective, you are absolutely right.
However, I have discussed VersaTiles with many users, including developers who don't work closely with map data. Most of them don't understand the technical processes or terminology. This means that every technical term leads to a new side discussion.
