This week my #gamedev weeknights took me on the scary path of figuring out why GPU instancing was not working in my Unity game. I learned many things like defining shader props to use instancing, using MatPropBlocks, and how dup ProBuilder objs still create unique meshes.
The result was going from an average of 600 draw calls down to 150. This was a huge win! And while my game was already running at 180fps it gained another 40fps in the process! In the end, using Frame Debugger was a huge help.
I'd like to make leaving Twitter more convenient for anyone inclined to jump, and I've noticed one of the things that keeps me there is it's where a bunch of media outlets post and they don't run accounts here.
