Lately i have noticed multiple strange uses of the collective “we” on fedi.

“We” are going to war with Iran, “we” bombed schoolchildren, “we” have failed to build an efficient railroad network.

I'm a bit boggled by how even progressives (even leftists?) identify with their national goverments to the point of incorporating into a single “we”.

“You” did not do any of that. Your government and your ruling class did it in your place, in spite of you.

Character Creation in Blasphemess

The themes of Blasphemess include "meaningful choices." How then do I illustrate that from the very start, with character creation?

All the media coverage stressing that the latest person in Minneapolis shot by ICE was a **US citizen** .... yeah, fuck you. Let's normalize discussing the fascist state executions in a way that doesn't imply shooting immigrants is A-ok.

There is no abolition of ICE without the abolition of borders and the concept of "citizen".

For #ScreenshotSaturday I have a small UI widget update to share: the incoming message monitor on the top left column.
Basically, it takes the timestamps of new messages in the log from my text-based browser game prototype (Blasphemess), and then it represents visually how many messages there are and how recently they appeared. It updates in real-time, and because it's a log-scaled X-axis, it can range from 1 second ago to 10 hrs ago with clarity for the player.

The intent is to allow players to understand at a glance if they are dealing with new messages coming in actively, or if they are looking at old messages, since some players may be logging in once a day, and others may sit there actively for hours at a time.

The widget is user-configurable, here they are split into 3 streams: combat, misc. and speech monitors, but there's also a combined monitor variant too.

To everyone living in the fascist, imperialist hellscape that is the United States... whatever you do today, let it be something disruptive.

Fuck this shit.

also, I would like to participate in a space not dominated by dudes that is all about enabling people to use their computing devices as tools for self-determination and equity and solidarity and artistic expression and whatever else without having to become computer nerds themselves.

I've used Linux for my whole life, but I've grown more jaded since I started working in the tech sector (I tried to avoid tech to do real work).

There are some ways to make linux more approachable, but it's still the same fundamental issue with any specialisation.
Tools, skills, etc. get complicated and we SHOULD be communal, it offloads so much burden when you don't have to do everything alone.

That means giving people grace, supporting people, and being welcoming.
I don't think everyone in the linux community needs to change, nor do I think linux needs to stay complicated.
We just need more helpful, welcoming people, and less of the dictating "I'm going to teach you in the way I learn best" and more "What way works for you to use this?" listening.

Because not everyone learns the same way, or wants to know deep technical lore.
Most people want to DO SOMETHING and like mentioned in these threads: computers are just a necessary evil to accomplishing that something.

I'm finally free enough after months of delays to work on my game again!
So I tackled emails (i.e. registration) and Single Sign On.
It's an important step, next up is invitation codes for sustainably growing new users in the closed prototype, and user-approval processes.

Marketing a free story is hard because it’s like “read my book! It has anti AI themes and a dungeon tentacle domme and a complex world and thisty MC who is doing her best! and share it please!“ and then when people share it you smile and when they don’t you’re out of ideas but here’s a link:
