Alternately, the AI bubble is the fabled fourth phase of enshittification: first they bait the users; then they gut the users to bait the business partners; next they gut the business partners to please the stockholders; and now they're coming for the stockholders too. And then everyone dies.
And still, why would anyone cooperate with that?

I feel as if the AI bubble can be summarized as “billionaires and autocrats conspire to buy up the world's compute” and, like, why would any normal person cooperate with that?
Doctorow is having an AI meltdown that reminds me of people like Graham Linehan's or JK Rowling's transphobic meltdowns.
His view is obviously right (?), and the people who disagree are obviously “psychotic” (?).
I can't believe this is the hill he's choosing to die on.
Extreme wealth increases people's ability both to do harm to others and to get away with it.
No one who believes that (all or some) people are predisposed to do harm to others should believe in the unfettered accumulation of wealth. #capitalism
Thinking about quitting mass media and mass culture and mass everything. Never consume anything whose creator i cannot personally correspond with.
(I suppose things by dead people would be an exception?)
