Doctorow is having an AI meltdown that reminds me of people like Graham Linehan's or JK Rowling's transphobic meltdowns.
His view is obviously right (?), and the people who disagree are obviously “psychotic” (?).
I can't believe this is the hill he's choosing to die on.
Extreme wealth increases people's ability both to do harm to others and to get away with it.
No one who believes that (all or some) people are predisposed to do harm to others should believe in the unfettered accumulation of wealth. #capitalism
Thinking about quitting mass media and mass culture and mass everything. Never consume anything whose creator i cannot personally correspond with.
(I suppose things by dead people would be an exception?)
Here’s a great, simple article on applied category theory! I’m glad that it explains a bit about ‘green mathematics’ and my struggle to do mathematics that will help the world.
Natalie Wolchover interviewed me twice for this, and it also features Matteo Capucci, Brendan Fong, Bob Coecke, David Spivak, Amar Hadzihasanovic, Nathaniel Osgood and Tom Leinster.

Lately i have noticed multiple strange uses of the collective “we” on fedi.
“We” are going to war with Iran, “we” bombed schoolchildren, “we” have failed to build an efficient railroad network.
I'm a bit boggled by how even progressives (even leftists?) identify with their national goverments to the point of incorporating into a single “we”.
“You” did not do any of that. Your government and your ruling class did it in your place, in spite of you.
As a non-coder there's something i've been wondering about.
For some time i've been noticing “manager of free software project does something undesirable” issues. And in my head i always ask, why not just fork the project?
If things are too difficult to fork, doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of them being free software?
A piece of software that's too difficult to fork sounds to me no better than “source available” software.
How do coders feel about this?
The most powerful among us don't believe in laws.
The ones in charge of applying and enforcing the laws don't believe in the laws.
Why should anyone else?
