Last session of #AoIR2024 day 2 was on ambient propaganda put together by the Marloes Geboers and Elena Pilipets. We started with @m_boesch and @TomDivon covering thirst trap propaganda on TikTok, exemplified through sexualised (and not always real) videos of female IDF soldiers attracting attention and "trapping" engagement. One of the most compelling instances of such propaganda reused a dance and a sound first utilised in defiance towards russia, suggesting the dangers of such hijacking.

Bit behind with my #AoIR2024 posts...but take that as a good sign that I've had a busy, enjoyable and interesting @AoIR conference.

The Place of a Child on Platforms and the Data and Tracking panels were fascinating this morning. Big ups to @tamaleaver, @taylorannabell, @TomDivon and @wishcrys for the former and @antmandan for the latter 👏 👏 👏

@ludmila and we have a former AoIR president spotted in the crowd! 👸
It’s a full house of first timers!!! The challenge was to find a seat 🪑 a human being 🤖 and CONNECT ✨ Apparently, internet researchers can actually log out!!! #AoIR2024 @ludmila

AoIR schedule for seeing our little group’s current and former researchers, interns and postdocs next week just dropped and you can go to every hour of the event and never see a panel without us. #aoir2024

Another #AoIR2024 top tip: this year, you may have noticed the drinks receptions are scheduled *after* the plenary and keynote talks. This is to create space for folks to discuss the presentations and to thank the speaker(s) :)

Yummy canapés along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be served at these events.

Is it your first AoIR? You’re not alone! ✨ 🙌 Join us for the First Timers meet-up on day one of the conference at Sheffield (Oct 31) during lunchtime; We’ll hang out for an hour before the afternoon sessions—just a chill chance to connect, chat, and get to know each other; Look out for me & @ludmila for more deets; We know, conferences can be A LOT—but remember, everyone is in the same boat; Welcome to your new (AoIR) family! 💞 🤩 #AoIR2024
Susanna Paasonen, Jenny Sundén, Maria Vihlman and I have published an article from our Rethinking Sexualities project. This time it is about the sex people who consider themselves sexually liberated find enjoyable. OA and available here https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/13634607231215763
Very pleased to have co-authored with my @digitalchild colleagues @_aleeshajoy and Michael Dezuanni this new piece which suggests some better paths forward in equipping young people to meaningfully and critically engage with social media and other online opportunities rather than banning them from using it altogether (as is currently being discussed in Australia): https://360info.org/social-media-bans-distract-from-real-issue/ #socialmedia #Australia #digitalliteracy
We (Meg Zeng, Vanessa Richter and me) will be presenting an interview study on how different stakeholder in the US, China, and Germany negotiate discursively how to understand and shape "Artificial Intelligence". #aiscicomm24
