Providing feedback to the #pig farmers who contributed to the long capture sessions of flying insects in outdoor and indoor pig farms in France. Stable #flies and #tabanids are present is all study farms. Their density per pig is greater in outdoor pig farms.
Now, we are scrutinizing the blood contained in the captured flies and compare it with that of pigs and wild boar to assess the likelihood that wild boar blood enters pig farms via blood-feeding insects.

At a time when highly pathogenic avian influenza #HPAI hits poultry farms all year round we need to dig into new approaches to increase the resilience of our livestock production systems to emerging disease threats.

Here, we looked at how a reduction of duck farm density could improve the resilience against #hpai.

“Thousands of scientists are cutting back on Twitter, seeding angst & uncertainty.”

That survey with only a 5% response rate went viral & got me wondering about other evidence & how the #ScienceTwitter #MastodonMigration was panning out.

So I updated my study tracker & wrote a new post @PLOS : https://absolutelymaybe.plos.org/2023/08/20/how-is-science-twitters-mastodon-migration-panning-out/

tl;dr There's been a big recent surge here; the future of #ScienceMastodon looks bright; ScienceX is materially diminished tho the network is still there.

How Is Science Twitter's "Mastodon Migration" Panning Out? - Absolutely Maybe

“Thousands of scientists are cutting back on Twitter, seeding angst and uncertainty.” And Mastodon was the most common destination if they opened…

Glad to join Mastodon to keep posting and sharing insights on infectious disease and epidemiological research.

I am planning to make a smoothed and total transition from X to Mastodon in the next weeks/months.
