A note on this account -- This instance, #Astrodon, is shutting down. Unfortunate, but understandable.

I had originally made this account under the hope astronomers would find a new home on the Fediverse, and I would have a more professional account to bore folks with details and a personal account to talk about biking. Alas, the influx never really matured, and most astronomers who got toe holds here eventually withered away.

This is to say -- there's no good reason for me to maintain a separate, astro-only account anymore, and so I will not be migrating off Astrodon when it shuts down in two weeks. I continue to toot at @thomasconnor, which I will now presumably sprinkle with more astro-specific toots.

Thanks to Seb for trying this experiment as a server admin.

Unfortunately, I can't find a good "Burning the Library of Alexandria" emoji for Slack...
They're only Solar if they come from the Day Star region of France; otherwise, they're just sparkling relative units.

On the one hand, as an X-ray astronomer who does not work on bright objects, I'm happy to go along with dunking on the Crab as a nonsense unit.

Conversely, as an X-ray astronomer (and one employed by a flagship X-ray observatory) who has to talk to low-energy folks, I feel like I need to stand up for what is, in effect, just sparkling Solar Luminosities.

It's a day early (Hubble's birthday is April 25, 1990), but it's still a good day to celebrate Ole Aluminumsides. This mug is already 10 years old! Hubble had three servicing missions at that age. #Hubble35 #Hubble25 #HubbleSpaceTelescope #ScienceMugs
Massive cuts to NASA science proposed in early White House budget plan

The preliminary version of President Donald Trump’s budget proposal to Congress, known as a “passback,” would cut the agency’s science budget funding nearly in half.

Two first quintiles rejected so far.

#JWST rejections going out. I'm beginning to think we might need another one of these to help lower the oversubscription!

Exciting times at #AAS245, as Lea Marcotulli prepares to present at a press conference on some super-exciting #NuSTAR + @ChandraScience results on the early universe

(I'm co-corresponding author on the paper, so I may be a little biased...)

On my way to #AAS245! Got some research to talk about, a press conference I'm super excited about, and, of course, the @ChandraScience booth. And to make it even better, it's a conference I can take the train to! #Acela #OnTheRightAmtrak
