When you're younger, you think grand public displays of affection is what love is.
I never got those things from my partner. Sometimes I wished he was more romantic. But then he'd show up at my place with black post it notes b/c he knew I got myself pastel coloured gel pens earlier.
He got me some moccasins because he knew my apartment was cold and just quietly dropped them off. No big displays.
As you get older, you realize that love was never about those big displays. The people who had the biggest displays that I admired then are mostly divorced, or about to be.
You realize that love is getting upstairs to the bedroom and finding an extra blanket on your side of the bed b/c he knew you were a bit cold last night.
Love is booking a massage appointment for you b/c your back isn't going to fix itself.
So what I guess I'm saying to the young ladies out there, don't fall for the grand public displays of affection. Those are for their instagram hits, not for you.
