This post by @futurebird gets at something that bothers me about a lot of SFF worldbuilding. In the name of Making Things Simpler (or perhaps Less Political), the standard genre fantasy has a medieval Europe without Jews or Moors and space westerns elide Native Americans (or, if they're Firefly, turn them into literally insane homicidal savages). World building is fun, but world building often exposes more about the author's perspective and life experience than they might intend. Never was this made more clear to me, in the most awkward way...
