@gregkh could it be LLM's discovering the 'security vulnerability' and not understanding the threat model? Not sure why there would be 5 at the same time though

Language learning methods that actually work #1: The binge

Today’s news was about the stock market crash of Duolingo, and I was talking about how this is one of the few positive things about “AI”:...

did you know that SSH has a little-known secret menu?

i wrote a post about this on cohost a while back, but since that site shut down i'm posting it here too

Hey, lazy web. Together with AWS and Microsoft, we are working on adding some minimal, native IMDS support to systemd, given how ubiquitous the concept is in the cloud world these days. It's supposed to be fully automatic, and reasonably generic. i.e. all the cloud-specific info (i.e. how to detect the clouds, which URLs to use) are placed in systemd's hwdb database, so that the code itself can be kept generic.

Right now the PR I prepped for this supports 5 major clouds. And I need your help…

I've played myself into a corner. Burned out from developing Every Door the entire last year. Got myself two grants, but after FOSDEM discovered I want to work on neither of them. Can't get this potentially programmable $3 badge out of my head.

Grants do solve some of the open source issues, but generally they should work like arts stipend: not tied to any specific project, just kind of life-supporting salary for unbounded R&D.

And so but anyway, did I ever tell you about my most humiliating experience as a skilled and successful computer programmer?
<'_> in Rust is the "Wink" operator. The compiler's like "You can't do that" and you're like "*Wink* Yeah, but you'll let it slide this time, right?"
@zverik @ploum I think it's a good balance between not too much effort to categorise and still have a useful separation of browser tabs and other programs.
@zverik @ploum one thing that really helps me separate the browser tabs from different things is KDE's activities (sort of like workspaces). I have activities for school, hobby and other. When I'm done with school I'll just leave all my programs and tabs open so I can return to it later.
It's not perfect of course. If I have multiple separate research sessions in one activity it can still be cluttered. And sometimes I forget to switch.
