PhD student at UQAM (casting, embodiment, and consent).
MA from Shakespeare Institute.
@cperry Sadly, it needs to be sorted by the end of this semester so i can continue in the program. But I would be able to change it later, either change completely or add a second person as co-director, so that seems like a good way to go.

Question: how absolute is the word count indicated for submissions to academic journals?

The uni where I did my MA traumatized me (one word over was penalized) so now I'm very strict, even though my current uni really isn't.

Basically, is it worth spending another 10 hours on it to cut 20 words? Or can I submit with a word count 20 words over the limit?

@cperry That's what I'm currently thinking of doing, after reading the paperwork with a calmer head it does look like I can later change supervisor or add a second one. It would take a lot of the immediate pressure off, since my program requires me to have a supervisor by the end of the current semester.

Friends, #Routledge is having a 30% off sale on all books. If you are interested in #Shakespeare or #earlymodern literature and #history of women you might be interested in my work. Two of my books are on sale (on co-edited with Emily G. Sherwood). Both are available in paperback and almost affordable. #histodons #litstudies

Question: what do I do?

Reaching out to academic at other uni seems weird. They have their own students to support!

Basically would like to have your opinions, advice, maybe talk this out in DM. I need to set my brain straight, quiet anxiety, and find a way forward.

Hello #academics, I'm a #PhDStudent in need of advice! (#EarlyModern #Theatre)

Context: I’m enrolled in a PhD program, enjoy it, BUT! The academics I listed as potential supervisors retired.

I met with one potential supervisor, liked her input, but our communication styles differ (me: anxious; her: 2 weeks since email, no response).

Program director says thesis director/supervisor can be from another uni.
