"Smartifying" a device is the process of taking a basic appliance, and adding functionality to integrate it into a Smart Home environment. In this article we'll look through the process of smartifying a rice cooker just by adding a smart plug, and modelling its state in Home Assistant.

Taking a walk through Oakland's suburbs, there are so many political lawn signs, but I didn't expect them to be so anti-pot.
Every second sign says "Stay Off the Grass".
They're only "Turkish Delights" if they originate from Türkiye.
Otherwise they're just "Sparkling Joy".
Note to self: Before spending an entire evening debugging wifi connectivity on a headless device, first check to see which protocols it supports.
