I hope to shout THIS WILL WORK right before the bad decision that leads to my ultimate demise. I was a Tech Lead / SWE @ Twitter for about 11 years, now taking some time off. Header image by Simon Stålenhag. he/him

"twitter is in good hands"

jack dorsey, 2023

Shots from the failed sign change at twitter today. Building management called police and had them stop halfway through. The crane was blocking traffic and there were few safety precautions being taken
I’m a cranky old-web person but I’m just genuinely fucking mystified that the reaction to either Jack’s or Zuck’s new corporate social media landgrab isn’t a loud unanimous laughing “no, get fucked”. Twitter and Facebook were a warning, not an instruction manual.
@Lucinda @codinghorror @carnage4life he’s also charming to the worst kind of nerd, so I think that does play into it
@andypiper @sluicing awesome! I get that actually fully federating likes is a whole architectural challenge so I’m mainly talking about having the client render the author’s server’s like count. Maybe that’s a lot of traffic to get updated like counts though
Why doesn’t mastodon at least render the remote server’s like count? You can click through to get this number, so why isn’t it the one displayed? Who cares how many “local” likes there are?
Been hanging some lights
