@Kels_316 @liamvhogan @ThermiteBeGiants there have been attempts. Sadly the Frikar https://podbike.com/ has not been a commercial success

@ThermiteBeGiants there’s friction for days chasing the chain through that length of hose, and it’s a lot of cleaning to do. It’d have the turning circle of a truck. Otherwise cool. IMO

Waiting for some washing to finish drying in the hotel this evening and browsing DIY cargo bike plans for my long-running obsession with creating a road-rail cargo bike and I found this design:
https://www.chopzone.com/content/plans/transporter_cargo_bike/transporter_cargo_bike.htm

I’m wondering: how bad is it to have such a long chain length on a bike like that? Would it handle better or worse than a Long John bike (the ones with front beds & steering linkages)?

@the_turtle I see a lot of 60+ folks out on their e-bikes when I ride, and the looks on their faces never fail to make me happy. This is what technology can do. This is why circuit boards matter. Every person who comes into cycling by way of a battery and an electric motor is a success story.

For any place wanting to renew manufacturing, maybe starting small & actually localising both production and use might be a better way to grow the skills, knowledge & benefits.

I can imagine big finance, road building & car manufacturing will not be so keen. There is no large profit in it for them to make.

E-bikes are a more important development than AI and solve more problems, but they don’t get nearly as much press and investment. This is because Microsoft doesn’t think adding e-bikes to Windows 11 will shield their stock price from market volatility. #Tech #AI #Cycling

The fact that fascist "intellectuals" are inevitably utter dipshits but get taken seriously over & over again should suggest to you that there's a large, subterranean *demand* among alleged non-fascists for permission to be just a little more fascist.

My notes from @madianou 's book "Technocolonialism" - I really enjoyed how clearly it was argued, how it tied together the logics of both techno-solutionism and colonialism in digital humanitarianism and how these played out in particular technologies such as #biometrics.

My key critique would be how to undo these logics - but perhaps that's for another volume.
