E-bikes are a more important development than AI and solve more problems, but they don’t get nearly as much press and investment. This is because Microsoft doesn’t think adding e-bikes to Windows 11 will shield their stock price from market volatility.

@isaaclyman Yup.

What hasn't changed my life at all: Copilot.

What *has* changed my life: owning an e-scooter.

@jaredwhite @isaaclyman suppose i'd best get my hands on an e scooter then
@GroupNebula563 @isaaclyman it very much depends on where you live, but if you think it would help you save on car trips or possibly help you get farther than you might go on a trad bicycle…or perhaps it's just plain fun as a way to get outside and some exercise regularly…then it's definitely an amazing purchase.
@jaredwhite @GroupNebula563 @isaaclyman an e-scooter is excercise? How does it work?
@caralara @jaredwhite @isaaclyman well, you stand on the e-scooter and get exercise. simple as.

(I often do a fair amount of walking too and sometimes manual kicking when I'm out on my e-scooter)

@isaaclyman Also, Windows 11 is just way too bloated to even run on e-bikes. Which is probably a good thing, because they’d shove you ads down your throat while you ride, or have Copilot ask you “it seems like you’re trying to go uphill; do you need help?”.

E-bikes with Bosch mechanisms seem to be based on either FreeRTOS or FreeBSD, from what I can see here: https://www.bosch-ebike.com/de/licences-products

@x0r @isaaclyman Can you imagine having to wait as long to ride your e-scooter or e-bike as it takes Windoze to boot?
@isaaclyman "Did you suffer whiplash from a fediverse post going somewhere unexpected? You may be entitled to compensation!"
@isaaclyman and you don't become a growth stock by selling ebikes

that's the holy grail of capitalism: the status where people just keep throwing cash at you

@isaaclyman they think AI will shield them from market volatility?

Including when investors finally figure out that AI decreases profits and pull out?

@ShadSterling @isaaclyman yeah i’m a little confused by this take… isn’t the goal more like *participating* in market volatility so that you can externalize the effects of the crash onto customers? sorry if i’m taking a shitpost too seriously

@isaaclyman

Whenever I had worked a Fortune 15 company's events unloading many dozens of roadboxes et al we had no loading dock and *constant* leeroy jenkins waves of ecycles, escooters crossing our paths.

plan your cities right and escoot and bike!

@isaaclyman much prefer this view, as opposed to fanatics insisting ebikes are for entitled rich assholes who ignore traffic laws.

I am in my 60s, not rich, and recovering from a stroke, and while I own a conventional bike, using it or even restoring it now is beyond me.

And adjusted for inflation the ebike cost $10 LESS.

@the_turtle I see a lot of 60+ folks out on their e-bikes when I ride, and the looks on their faces never fail to make me happy. This is what technology can do. This is why circuit boards matter. Every person who comes into cycling by way of a battery and an electric motor is a success story.
@isaaclyman I don’t really want windows running on my ebike, thanks

@isaaclyman Microsoft’s new bumper sticker:

Copilot is my God.

@isaaclyman WINDOWS EMBEDDED IN EVERY E BIKE LET'S GO
@isaaclyman Don't forget they are simply amazing to ride.

@isaaclyman ‘Brakes.exe has performed an illegal error and will now shut down. Do you wish to send an error report?’

Aaaargh!! <splat>

@isaaclyman They should make e-bikes part of the business cycle. 🥁
@isaaclyman who the hell uses microsoft products anymore? 😂

@isaaclyman

As someone who owns and uses an e-bike: I am very happy that it runs - without Windows.

(What ever operating system is behind the controller, it is luckily not very enhanced AND just working).

@isaaclyman e-bikes are an actual solution to a genuine problem. They HATE that.
@isaaclyman have you tried forming a cult that believes ebikes are sentient?
@isaaclyman And I’d definitely avoid buying an e-bike if it ran on Windows.
