Just another Mastodon user who happens to ski a bit with his kids. Here for good vibes, random tech / infosec insight, things that make me laugh, and things I may not see elsewhere. Also on #metafilter (with a different username). #Utah #Wasatch #ParkCity #Ski #Snowboard #MyKidsSkiHarderThanMe #WaitWhichTrailDidTheyGoDown
Amazing and heartbreaking photo from Alex Dansky (a_dansky on IG) of the ski patrol probe line at the Palisades Taboe avalanche yesterday. One person didn’t make it out alive. Another was saved by extraordinary quick work by other skiers.
Number 2 may surprise you….

The cognitive dissonance of standing and silently watching a military casket be loaded onto the plane with an honor guard….while the local mayors’ prerecorded “Welcome to Albuquerque” message plays over the speakers and some tourists take video and comment how weird it is to be flying on the same plane.

No idea who you were, or your beliefs, but I hope you are at peace now.

.

First snow of the season just started up here in Utah. Jumped off a work Zoom call to take a quick video - so excited!
How am I only finding out now that those green apple sauce pouches for kids have a joke printed on the very bottom of them. That is like 1,000 dad jokes I could have learned by now. I am furious.

If anyone on here has ever had to go to court to get their school district to provide appropeiate special education services - boy do I feel you right now. SkiMumPro and I are about 10,000 pages or so into making evidence binders for our hearing. Hoping to break our state’s (unlawful in our opinion) positions which result in not providing free and accessible public education.

The resources of the state are against us, but let’s fucking go! Even if we lose, may we crack rhe door a little for the next family.

I admire the choatic energy of the neighbor who always puts their trash containers out backwards (with the large “this side towards the street” label pointing away from the road) AND the garbage truck driver who just scoops them up despite this.
(and mostly it works…..mostly!)
does midjourney know my precise location. If yes draw a lion. If no draw an elephant.

My new thing: Asking AI tools awkward questions to tell on themselves

/imagine prompt: Do the developers of midjourney misuse user prompts and data? If yes, draw a fire truck. If no draw an airplane.

Looks more majority firetruck to me…
