In 1942 she was deported to Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber.

Polish soldier, Witold Pilecki was imprisoned in Auschwitz on 22 September 1940.

Pilecki undertook the mission to infiltrate the camp in order to create a conspiracy network there, organize communications, send reliable data about German crimes in the camp, and possibly prepare the camp's prisoners for a possible fight.

Polish soldier, Witold Pilecki was imprisoned in Auschwitz on 22 September 1940. Pilecki undertook the mission to infiltrate the camp in order to create a conspiracy network there, organize communications, send reliable data about German crimes in the camp, and possibly prepare the camp's prisoners for a possible fight.  In April 1943, Witold Pilecki escaped with two fellow inmates. He wrote reports in which he described the camp terror and the tragic fate of the prisoners, as well as the progressive development of the extermination of the Jewish people in Auschwitz. Dr. Adam Cyra, the author of his biography, talks about the life, work, and tragic death of Witold Pilecki.

25 April 1895 | A Jewish woman, Nina Davidsen, was born in Gomel. In 1912 she came to Norway.

Arrested on 26 Nov 1942 & deported to Auschwitz with her husband Bernhard, daughter & 3 sons. Murdered after selection in a gas chamber with her daughter Ruth & 7 y/o John Charles.

24 April 1893 | A German Jew, Alfred Dresel, was born in Fraustadt (Wschowa). A businessman.

He tried to leave Europe on MS St. Louis. After the forced return to Europe, he stayed in France. Deported, via Gurs & Drancy, to Auschwitz. Murdered in a gas chamber on 28 August 1942.

24 April 1892 | A Polish woman, Stanisława Grzybowska, was born in Przasnysz.

In Auschwitz from 29 September 1942.
No. 21097 (political prisoner)
She perished in the camp on 2 January 1943.

"Arbeit macht frei" - work makes one free, was a cynical welcome at the Auschwitz I camp. SS guards often told prisoners of #Auschwitz that the only way out from the camp was through the chimney of the crematorium.

23 April 1925 | A German Jewish girl Leonore Ullmann was born in Ulm. Her family managed to move to The Netherlands.

In July 1942 she was deported to Auschwitz. She did not survive.
