New protected bike and tram lane on Swanston Street at Victoria Street after the recent tramworks.

The former siding slash turning track has also been planted with grass and will become a very useful pocket park. Great to see the old signal box retained as well!

Hi Minister Jason Clare ๐Ÿ‘‹

We fund fewer than half as many basic, blue-sky, ARC discovery projects than in 2010.

The collapse has continued in the last 2 years.

Please, increase ARC funding for discovery research like all the reviews recommend.

It's 7.28 on a Friday night. All the extra short-run Melton services have stopped, so there's just one train every 40 mins that needs to cope with all the passengers for the western suburbs, as well as those for western Victoria.
V/Line has scheduled the train to run with only three carriages.
It's standing room only til we reach Cobblebank, which since the train is late, is about 40 minutes into the journey.
Oh and just checking the V/Line app, it seems the 8.08 train was cancelled! Good luck to those trying to squeeze onto the 8.48, which is also scheduled with three carriages.

Good discussion on train replacement buses, pain points and how to fix things at Transport Camp Melbourne.

I've written many times before on this topic, most recently here: https://philipmallis.com/2024/09/02/ptv-disruption-information-and-extreme-weather/

PTV disruption information & extreme weather | Philip Mallis

Victoria's public transport has been affected by recent storms. This needs to be communicated to passengers but the current setup leaves a lot to be desired.

Even in regional centres, people are ditching their car in favour of cycling and public transport.

Australian families switching to cycling as car-running costs rise

Since getting a bike over a year ago, Alice Humble and her family have saved $800 in petrol. They're one of many households choosing cycling as car running costs increase.

I'm off to #TransportCamp Melbourne today! Have never been before, so very much looking forward to it.
It's not even 9pm, and on one of Melbourne's busiest bus routes, the last service has already departed.
And not just this route. For many suburbs across our city, public transport has stopped for the night.
Are we really a world city? #MoreServicesPlease
A good 20 minutes late getting into Ballarat tonight, after being held for roughly that long in the Millbrook loop, waiting for a late Melbourne-bound service to cross us.
The Ballarat Line Upgrade of a few years ago definitely helped, but the remaining single track sections still cause these kinds of snowballing delays

Poor lighting and ventilation, lack of bins, poor information, continual reliability problems with lifts and escalators... Southern Cross Station is not the efficient welcoming transport hub it should be.
