@CRUlph I am so sorry. The UK academic system sucks.
My youngest is currently working up PHD applications. Despite always wanting to stay into academia, she is so worried about future employability she is seriously considering not sending them in, and looking for a job in industry instead.
I wish you well and hope you find something else your skills and talent can thrive in.

My plans to tidy up the patio for winter blown away today. Stopped raining for a bit but still very blustery - even in my usually very sheltered garden. From the amount of moss that's landed on the floor, I suspect the roof needs work too.
