Retired headteacher of school for children with severe and profound and multiple learning needs. Soul music, art, education and a bit of politics.

Oh thank goodness! I'm not quite sure how many decades it takes for #TrickleDownEconomics to finally dampen us all a little bit, but at least some of the most needy are seeing it begin......

What an excellent overview of the interaction between education and a person's whole life, with a focus on how society should be enabled to welcome and support people with learning disabilities.
Fully applicable to everyone, irrespective of difference:

In pursuit of a life well lived

At Ambition Institute’s SEND roundtable, hosted in partnership with CST, Simon shared thoughts on how we need civic society to change if we are to support young people with disabilities to have a good life.

@Alex_Verbeek I’m still finding it a bit awkward to shift. The rather heavy handed ‘favourite’ seems a bit too much compared to just clicking ‘like’ - or are people just using them as the same thing?
@GeorgeJulian It’s a lovely sunny day for it but they’ll have had to troop down mostly as a long chain all on foot and in wheelchairs from the school about 3/4 mile down the road to the cinema. Lots of the snow and ice still around, especially on pavements!
It was the primary section of the school, each of the classes doing their take on a classic fairytale this time.

Frank Wise School are back at the Odeon cinema in Banbury with another blockbuster Christmas film!
They’ve rolled the red carpet out and children, families and staff will enjoy a premiere like no other.
Along with the film, they have also pulled together 3 separate live performances so that every single child in the school takes some degree of starring role to share with their friends and families.

Staff had achieved outstanding outcomes for #autistic people by supporting medical professionals to reduce or stop a reliance on medicines and explore alternative ways to help people manage their needs.

The provider identified a previously unrecognised negative impact on a person's wellbeing due to the side effect of an anti-psychotic medicine.

As a result, people were able to be more independent in their new homes.

One staff said of three people,

"They weren't allowed in the kitchen at their previous place, and now they make pizzas.

Basically, anything they can do for themselves now they do it.

They vacuum, they clean the floors, they are just involved in everything."

I saw a tip about using #debirdify which worked pretty well. You can download a csv file of following and a separate one for followers, and then import them to Mastodon. Seems to work, but I think it’s dependent on when you do the move. If people aren’t already here then I guess they just get missed off. 👍
@GeorgeJulian I can definitely read the thread, & was able to boost individual toots within it.
I don’t yet know how to best use the favourite option, or how widely a direct reply like this might be to others on Mastodon.
I do find the threads important in cataloguing such human & commercial abuse of what should be our society’s responsibility, & admit I often get only partway.
I feel that Mastodon is as valid as Twitter for talking about the failings in care for people in society.

"The inspection was prompted in part by notification of an incident following which a person using the service sustained harm.

This incident is subject to further investigation by CQC as to whether any regulatory action should be taken.

As a result, this inspection did not examine the circumstances of the incident.

However, the information shared with CQC about the incident indicated potential concerns about the management of risk of safeguarding, reporting and training"
