“Watching as professional crybabies like Ben Shapiro tried to get people to boycott 'Barbie' because one of the actresses in the film (Hari Nef, who played Doctor Barbie) is trans, and seeing that has absolutely no effect on the film’s success demonstrates that the Bud Light and Target controversies and capitulations only became big deals because Bud Light and Target responded to the outrage as though it were genuine.”

‘Stop calling it Twitter’ says guy who deadnames his own child – The Chaser

'Why won't you just accept X for who it is?'

One day, in a utopian future, I hope we'll look back at 2023 and scratch our heads in puzzlement at the fact that a cabinet minister painted over Mickey Mouse murals because he felt they were too welcoming to refugee children, and we didn't burn Westminster to the fucking ground.

Suppose I say summer

“…because were she to die here they would cover her up with a stone, and in the mind of a woman for whom no place is home the thought of an end to all flight is unbearable.”

You might want to rethink that walking tour of Italy this summer (and of Spain, Portugal, Greece, the Balkans, southern France....)
Nearly 120 degrees F in Italy

Bill McGuire:

European heat record (48.8C) could be smashed in the next few weeks.

Could this be the summer European temperatures break 50C barrier?

This would be truly astonishing - and terrifying. #ClimateCrisis

Working on a blog post: Listing #Mastodon benefits that try to avoid nerd shit

- No ads = no incentive to tolerate hate and abuse for the sake of ad revenue
- Healthier moderation - Vast majority of the Mastodon network has blocked the far-right hate trolls and communities
- Use any apps you want
- Find a community that shares your interests, engage with the global community—only if you want
- Communities set their own rules around accepting new members, sensitive content, etc.

What else?

Scientists have developed a transparent mouse. Sometimes I'm just really grateful that I don't do acid any more.
People* saying Threads is kinder, more friendly. I don't know who needs to hear this but there are good people and bad people, and people don't change simply because they move from one location to another. Sociopaths do not stop killing en masse simply because one day they decide to stop frequenting Starbucks and visit Costa Coffee instead.
*Meta, the people who illegally sold all your data to Cambridge Analytica.
Due to technical issues, I find myself half a year late for the mass migration from Twitter to Mastodon. Disappointed with the direction mainstream social media is taking, Mastodon emerges as a refreshing alternative. Its open-source, decentralized nature promotes transparency, while community-driven moderation policies encourage healthy and civilized dialogue. I am eager to give Mastodon a try! 🐘
