In Disney's Dinosaurs (1940), the great extinction is caused by a massive drought. The theory of the meteor killing off dinosaurs wasn't proposed until the early 1980s.
I remember learning about dinosaurs in school. I was taught they went extinct because "their body was so big they had to have two brains to coordinate that huge mass, and the cooperation between the two brains wasn't efficient enough".
