Paris Proves the Power of Pedals: How Cycling Helped Cut Pollution in Half

"Over the past two decades, the French capital has undergone a remarkable transformation — and cyclists are riding at the heart of it. A recent report by Airparif, the independent organization that monitors air quality in the Île-de-France region, delivered the kind of news that would have seemed unimaginable 20 years ago: between 2005 and 2024, levels of nitrogen dioxide and fine particulate matter — two of the most harmful pollutants to human health — have been slashed by 50% and 55%, respectively."

Paris Cycling Investment Helps Cut Pollution in Half

So how did Paris, once choked with vehicle traffic and notorious for its pollution, pull off such a turnaround?

@JoBlakely Perhaps we should start saying "go woke or go broke"
@climatenews.bsky.social Yeah, didn't he say (on his government's anti-encryption law) something like the laws of mathematics may be fine, but here the laws of Australia are supreme? 🤪

Tesla is under investigation in Canada for falsifying thousands of sales to game our rebate system.

What if some of the vandalism at Tesla dealerships in the USA were simply insurance fraud scams?

@Corsair_of_time 32 km/h, meanwhile 30 km/h has been standard in much of Europe for well over a decade.
Australia should both reduce suburban streets to 30 km/h and raise motorway/highway limits to 130 km/h (or more where roads are suitable or can be made suitable). Australia needs higher speed limits for the long distances between cities, but lower ones in streets people live in, children may walk/play in, etc.
@Gracchus Unaffordable housing & now insurance (thanks to fossil fuel companies) + the fascist regime now in the USA deliberately putting up tariffs seem like good reasons to avoid sending money to the USA.
@Old_IT_geek @DropBear @Salvo Like many religious people, they like *some* of that & conveniently ignore what they don't like (in this case ignoring the high marginal tax rates)
@vida_latina @jeffjarvis United States? 🤔🫣
