Moments of Madness: Neurodivergent Burnout
In a Very Special Episode of Moments of Madness, our intrepid neurospicy heroines delve into the topic of ADHD burnout, talk about their experiences with it and how they handled it, as inspired by AJ’s recent therapy session.
Moments of Madness: ADHD Tangents and Neurodivergent JoyDear SaaS and PaaS products: it’s great that you provide granular permissions and flexible, robust access control. But if you don’t provide good documentation and tooling on how to configure it and someone has to be a member of an arcane priesthood to make sense of it all, you’re just going to end up with two types of customer: one who are perpetually annoyed and frustrated with you, and another who are just going to give everyone admin access to everything. I don’t see how either of these are good outcomes.
New (minor) swimming milestone! I have been regularly managing twelve laps rotating 1 lap of breaststroke, 1 freestyle, then 1 backstroke in around 30 minutes. (Interestingly, I always struggle the first two sets on the freestyle laps until I hit my stride and something more efficient kicks in.) Today I was feeling extra energetic and managed to skip the last lap of backstroke and replace it with another freestyle lap without any issues!
What if I could convince you that taking the same time to explain detailed requirements and carefully validate results with a junior colleague instead of a chatbot would not only give you two people who understood the code instead of zero, but if you do it a few times in a row you eventually get a senior colleague out of the deal for free.
First proper lap swim of the year. It went better than I thought it would but now I’m really tired.
#swimmingI wonder how many other folks have a dream that ends with some phrase or word that almost obsessively sticks with you. Today I woke up very stuck on the phrase “Lake Powys”. Then I had to look it up; there’s no such place but there is a big lake *in* Powys, which I never really have been to, despite a short stint in Ceredigion when I studied abroad at the University of Aberystwyth.
For the absolute soup that is Sydney weather today, I gave my new skirt a trial run. Upcycled linen sheet that had a huge hole in it. No pattern, minimal measuring. Hand sewn. Fits well, and very very breathable. Based largely on info in this tutorial: https://youtu.be/6xHOnS4fK2c?si=gjS7zwkLjUKRVKWV

In the meantime she is the most spoiledest rat ever, recipient of not just an entire almond, but also some yoghurt and many cuddles and head scritches.
Sigh. Bad news from the vet’s. Little Miss Flower the rat, almost age 2, has cancer of the nasty kind. We will say goodbye and send her off in the kindest way possible on Sunday. Gonna miss this little Chaos Potato.

Yes, It’s Fascism
Until recently, I thought it a term best avoided. But now, the resemblances are too many and too strong to deny.
