I figured out a new process for lifting onto mulberry paper!

• I placed the wet paper onto a flat smooth surface (back of a cookie sheet in this case)
• I positioned the image layer on it, trying to anticipate the degree to which it would spread out
• And smoothed it with a gentle stream of tap water

This solved the problem of the paper being too delicate and flimsy to lift!

We left Maine yesterday and are slamming back into regular life! At least I've got these four emulsion lift panoramas to remind me of a rejuvenating time away. 😢

There are things I wish I could do over in each image (and the lifting quality of the b&w definitely made an impact), but all in all I'm thrilled that they came together, and say different things about how people and land and water meet.

Aaaaah #EmulsionLiftGang aaaaah!!!!!

5/5 pano/triptychs!!!!!

I'll post better pics once they've dried. 😁👍

Okay @ShittyCameraChallenge - I think these are my four top shots from this Maine trip.

• The color images in this batch lifted like a dream - almost too well, really! But the colors were really good.

• Now that I'm getting to know my camera better I'm getting mostly keepers out of each pack of film, and that's super-satisfying.

• Fingers crossed for completing the triptychs later today!

• The boathouse in the field is one of my favorite scenes on this island, and I keep coming back to it

• I was inspired by @moragperkins with the dry bouquet photo

Thanks, #EmulsionLiftGang !

Hey #EmulsionLiftGang - got a little window of time yesterday evening to do some work on the triptychs! Plus lifting the rest of my singletons.

• This batch of b&w is really tricky: the image layer sticks like mad to the backing and the white flaky substrate won't dissolve off, so the surface texture of the lifted image looks like 500yo old painting. This also keeps it from stretching out as much on the paper.

• Related, it was really tricky to position for panos - the edges curled like mad!

#EmulsionLiftGang update: mischief managed.

Got a bunch of shots during this vacation that I'm eager to lift, maybe tomorrow, but for the moment here's a triptych panorama-to-be of the little beach next to the town dock.

@ChadHillPhotos

So I'm not going to pull the trigger on the $2k bombercam, but I did pick up this sweet baby recently (came with a second lens, a SMC Pentax 28mm f/3.5). Apparently it's the smallest all-mechanical slr ever! Very enjoyable so far.
