Stellantis CEO targets US turnaround as carmaker faces $1.7 billion hit from tariffs this year
Stellantis is forecasting that U.S. tariffs would cost the carmaker $1.7 billion this year. The announcement on Tuesday is five times the hit taken in the first six months of the year when the carmaker tallied losses of $2.65 billion. The maker of Jeep, Chrysler, Fiat and Peugeot cars said that net profits plummeted from $6.5 billion in the same period last year as it burned through $3.8 billion in cash. Stellantis said that U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs cost the company $346 million in the first six months of the year. U.S. shipments were down by nearly a quarter during that period as the carmaker reduced the importation of vehicles produced abroad.

Europe's human rights watchdog condemns Serbia's crackdown on protests
Europe's human rights watchdog has raised concerns about Serbia's handling of protests against President Aleksandar Vucic's government. The Council of Europe's commissioner for human rights pn Friday criticized the use of excessive force and arbitrary arrests by Serbian authorities. Protests led largely by students have intensified since November after a deadly infrastructure collapse. Demonstrators accuse the government of corruption and demand an early election. Recent clashes with riot police have left several injured including students. Serbian police deny using excessive force and call the protests illegal. The European Union and U.N. have urged restraint as tensions continue to rise.
