I subscribed to 500 and received an email with an invitation. Do I need to create a user right away on the instance, or can I wait a few days? @kev

A beneficial enhancement by adding a good custom sound from @drafts into @KeyboardMaestro to achieve even more native experience between two of my favorite indie apps.

I’m so tired of those unaccessible captchas. Maybe I should make sure that you’re not a robot instead?

The Applevis website has been an excellent resource for me and many other blind users on how to use their Apple devices more efficiently. It is an outstanding platform for providing different tips and tricks for blind and visually impaired users. I wish the best to David and his family. https://mastodon.social/@lapcatsoftware/112799279341042154
It’s an incredibly busy time when a developer releases a rewritten app that they’ve been working on for a long time. All software has bugs, so developers hit that Publish button and hold their breath for the feedback.
Nevertheless, Marco has already published an update of the rewritten @overcastfm build to Test Flight which addresses the most critical VoiceOver regressions. That was quick work and I wanted to say a public “thank you”.
There are Indie developers who care about #accessibility, and when we find them, we can work with them differently from, say, a faceless corporation that won’t engage and who insist that we wait our turn.
Although there are some growing pains which are being dealt with rapidly, I’m feeling positive about the future of Overcast because the hard work has been done to put infrastructure in place that sets the app up for a sustainable future with new features. I tell you, if we ever get the ability to select a bunch of episodes and delete them in one go, I’ll do a very happy dance.
So, thanks again Marco and thanks to the indie developers who single-handedly do the coding, the marketing, the PR and the tech support.
@overcastfm Hi Marco, I know regressions are your focus right now so will stick to those, from a VoiceOver user’s perspective.
Regarding the restoration of Overcast speaking the podcast from which an episode comes while viewing a playlist, it would be a major efficiency gain if you have Overcast speak the source after the episode title, not before it. My rationale is that if a user hears enough of an episode title to know they don’t want to hear it, they can immediately perform an action and the source is irrelevant. If the title intrigues them then we want to know who produced it. Some podcast names are long, so this would save VoiceOver users considerable time, especially those of us with a large number of podcasts.
Second, when in a playlist, it now takes two swipes to engage with each episode, whereas in the previous Overcast it only took one. The Info button used to be part of the VoiceOver Actions Rotor, but now it’s a separate button a VO user is required to swipe through. If the Info button can be added back to the Actions Rotor and removed from the swipe order, this would be another efficiency gain. There’s a similar issue when editing a playlist, except in that case it pertains to the Reorder button. I would think there could be Move Up and Move Down options added to the Actions Rotor so once again there’d only be one swipe per episode.
Third, I think via a VoiceOver hint, the old Overcast used to speak the show notes of an episode after a short pause. This was brilliant! The new version doesn’t do this, so it’s necessary to invoke the Info button to get that info. This is quite an efficiency hit.
And finally, if you have gone into the Info screen to get those notes and then returned to the previous screen, focus doesn’t seem to return to the last episode you were on.
I won’t revisit the issues with focus when you choose to play an episode since you’re already aware of them.
Thanks. I know these things vary but for me, this build is definitely a lot more performant with VO running.
And I appreciate that Delete option being at the bottom of the Actions Rotor, I hope that remains as it makes deleting episodes in a playlist more efficient. It’s also consistent with the way Apple handles deleting Mail in the Mail app.

Hey @keenan

Just wanted to say that I enjoy a very good blog. Especially, the audio versions where available.

As a screen reader user, I extra appreciate a good narrated story by a human. Keep up the good work!

I wrote about read later workflow with @drafts

Once again, Drafts becomes more significant in my different workflows.

Also, the usage of the action by i @flohgro will increase.

I wrote a blog post about screen reader. Among other things, you will find out the efficiency of using a Mac with VoiceOver compared to being a sighted user.
