People are literally dependent on it - Lemmy.World

More of a rant than anything. I was traveling for business yesterday and the person next to me on the plane was getting some work done. I was trying not to snoop, but it’s hard not to while in the middle seat. He went back and forth between his email and chat gpt. Just copy and pasting back and forth. It was painful because apparently he didn’t know you could use keyboard shortcuts. He then pulled up teams, and messaged a group that all had very Indian looking names. They all responded. He then went to PowerPoint/excel and spent the next hour trying to make a pie chart. Something about URL bandwidth, which makes me think he’s in some kind of tech position. We were in business class. He wore designer labels. He (as far as I could tell) was successful. At no point in the 3 hour flight did a conscious thought enter his mind. Everyone keeps talking about AI not being profitable, but this guy gave me the realization: there is a growing class of people who are completely dependent on AI. Without it their lives and careers would fall apart. This guy would pay anything for it. He cannot function without it. You don’t think the tech giants don’t know this? Maybe someday soon there will be the mother of all rug-pulls.

When I get out of the shower it’s like trying to dry a wet towel with a towel.

I’m really starting to get into old western movies - Lemmy.World

I finally watched the two movies that come before The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. I loved them. They were exciting and dramatic and had some decent storytelling. What I liked most was they don’t spoon feed you everything. If you’re not paying attention and are on your phone you’re not going to know what’s going on. For example, I was on my phone, looked up, and saw that the hero was doing terribly at target practice. I had to rewind to see that they broke his right hand and was learning to shoot with his left. I swear modern movies just have actors narrating and renarrating what they’re doing because they know you’re on your phone not really paying attention. Also, I realized that when a cowboy does a super quick draw and shoots 3 men before they can draw it’s just like an anime when there is a flash and the hero sheathes their sword, with enemies falling over dead.

We need a slur for people who blindly copy LLM outputs - Lemmy.World

The MAHA report got me thinking. We need a concise slur for people who blindly copy and paste LLM outputs. It needs to say that the person is lazy, ignorant, gullible, disrespectful, and dishonest all at once. Something along the lines of NPC. Maybe parrot? But that’s not too catchy. Any ideas?

You know how conservatives have their “one joke?” Well AI bros have found theirs.
