People are literally dependent on it - Lemmy.World

More of a rant than anything. I was traveling for business yesterday and the person next to me on the plane was getting some work done. I was trying not to snoop, but it’s hard not to while in the middle seat. He went back and forth between his email and chat gpt. Just copy and pasting back and forth. It was painful because apparently he didn’t know you could use keyboard shortcuts. He then pulled up teams, and messaged a group that all had very Indian looking names. They all responded. He then went to PowerPoint/excel and spent the next hour trying to make a pie chart. Something about URL bandwidth, which makes me think he’s in some kind of tech position. We were in business class. He wore designer labels. He (as far as I could tell) was successful. At no point in the 3 hour flight did a conscious thought enter his mind. Everyone keeps talking about AI not being profitable, but this guy gave me the realization: there is a growing class of people who are completely dependent on AI. Without it their lives and careers would fall apart. This guy would pay anything for it. He cannot function without it. You don’t think the tech giants don’t know this? Maybe someday soon there will be the mother of all rug-pulls.

I was in a nearly identical situation. I was 25, 6 foot tall, and 118 lbs. I also have IBS and get nauseous very easily with things like dairy. I’m now 35, 185 lbs, and look good with my shirt off.

I have some kind of weird metabolic disorder. Since it’s not life threatening, Drs won’t bother figuring out which one exactly. Whenever by body is stressed it will start to break itself down. I get super high ketones in my urine with something as simple as a cold. The only reason I know all this is because my daughter has it too, and they accused us of starving her when we were getting her treated for a UTI. Basically, my body is always in starvation mode. I’m not saying you have this, it’s just my story.

Anyways, everyone told me to just eat more and I tried. I remember making 900 calorie shakes with gainer. I also tried the gallon of milk a day thing.

What finally worked was I started weight lifting. Not half measures like body weight or cross fit. Proper strength training. Once I did, my appetite started to naturally increase and I craved things like red meat. Over time as a grew my appetite did too.

Now, I eat about twice as much as a man my size. Im basically always hungry. It doesn’t feel like it’s something I’m making myself do. I only lift 4 times a week for about 30 minutes and run a 5k 3 times a week. Anyways, that’s just my story.

I don’t mean this rudely, but there are a lot of autistic IT nerds on here who are trying to be helpful, but come off as know-it-all and rude. If you keep that in mind, it’s a nice place.

New headline:

After replacing leadership in response to poor August job numbers, Trump’s DOL claims that 119,000 jobs were added for September

As an engineer I greatly disagree. Sure in your engineering classes you get a much more “real” understanding what the math operations do, however without the foundational math skills you can’t do the engineering derivations. Kinda of a chicken and egg situation.
I had many of the same revelations when I got out of the military. I worked nights and Armed Forces Network played literally every game. I watched so much football on my last deployment. Once I got out, I realized how hard it was to follow football. Once I stared a family I gave up completely.
Go away Kamala
I’m surprised they found a single screen shot of that movie without lens flare for the thumbnail

If a president ignores the constitution and starts a war, the remedy is impeachment for high crimes.
