Hey y’all! This is my personal account on Reality Ridge.

Hello Fediverse!

I'm sharing a thing that I hope can be the beginning for many conversations, and represents for me a statement that is the result of many years of conversation:

https://slocanstatement.org/

I call it the #SlocanStatement, and I'm sharing it here first, in public, in the spirit of the Fediverse.

I hope you'll read it, share it if you think it's a valuable statement, and comment and revise it towards building consensus across the Fediverse.

@clipperchip @oliphant so beautiful 😍
@f00fc7c8 ohhhh TIL! I thought that the Activity Pub was derived from Mastodon. Thanks for sharing your perspective on the history. Would you consider contributing to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fediverse ? Your thread is much clearer than the current History section.

@futurebird I think you want something like [email protected]. You know it’s official because it’s on the same domain that the agency uses for everything else. Somebody with a good managed hosting platform can offer this as a service to municipalities, along with some relay & curation services to amplify it.

⚠️PLEASE BOOST⚠️ Do you want a better Internet? Help the people who make it happen!

@[email protected] co-authored #ActivityPub, the protocol that makes Mastodon happen. It's what allows different Fediverse instances to talk to each other, preventing another Elon Musk from happening.

Now she's building @[email protected], a FOSS distributed programming platform. The mission: social media done right.

@ianburnette so tempting to think that you can solve #accessibility by throwing #ai it. However, I’ve been disappointed with the quality of the solutions in this space. The main one I’ve used is Microsoft’s auto-alt tag suggestions in Office. The suggestions are generally useless. Still, it reminds you to write an alt tag and surfaces the UI for it, so better than nothing.
@sti what is a “respect advisor” and can I get one on speed dial?
@LGUG2Z @PeterBronez maybe you could call it a “quote keeper”? Also: I really appreciate your attention to requesting minimal permissions for your connections! 🥇I noticed that both the Firefox extension and Twitter importer are limited to what makes sense, rather than defaulting to wide open read/write. Definitely increases the perceived quality of the system for me.
@paul_hutch @shanselman that’s encouraging! I’m eager to spin up some #raspberrypi clusters when they’re available again, and a low price point is important for making that feasible.
