Some fun facts about this guy:

* Started his Fediverse adventure on Lemmy. First on lemmy.ml but now on Beehaw.
* Regards the Fediverse a good "space" in which to try out micro-blogging again, after having left Twitter years ago (way before current affairs).
* Interested in:
#computers, #FLOSS, #Linux, #science, #reading, listening to #music, drinking a bit too much #coffee.
* Lives in the Netherlands.
* Posts and boosts (mostly) in English and Dutch.
* Born in the mid-80s.
*
#Bicycle #commuter.
*
#Flexitarian
* He/him.
* Has selected "Nederlands" as language, but English and (to a lesser extent) German are fine.

My current banner is a cropped version of a wallpaper I found on Reddit years ago. Unfortunately I no longer have any idea to whom I should attribute it.

Profile picture:
Selfie of me sitting at a window with a light grey curtain, partially blocking the incoming daylight to prevent overexposure to the photograph. I am wearing my glasses and have my head slightly tilted while I am smiling with my front teeth bared.

Banner image:
A manipulated photograph of a magpie with the head of an orca that has opened its mouth fairly wide. Its wings are still folded alongside the body in a way actual birds would do when they sit on e.g. a fence post or branch.

"Ad blockers are unethical—ads are how they pay to keep the lights on!”

Exactly. It's how THEY pay to keep the lights on. It's not how I pay for anything. I didn't agree to see ads, although I'm ok with some ads; what I definitely didn't do is agree to be tracked and profiled and have arbitrary third-party code running on my computer just so I could read this awful, pointless, SEO-ified shitfest of an article that doesn't come close to answering the question I was googling.

Even though I absolutely love #Linux, sometimes I get tired of encountering the same issues over and over again, and of the "it's 99% there" situation.

Let me know if you agree with these issues or not, and if you have others that personally bother you.

(Also, 2nd video out of 4 that isn't edited by me, previous feedback has been incorporated partially, let me know what you thought!)

Found these in an old book. Any idea what they are? Rationing stamps maybe?
I'm not saying we live in the dumbest timeline, but these are all recent headlines.

Thanks to everyone who reached out, fediDB.org and fediverse.info will remain online going forward.

I'm not going anywhere either, though I think I need a break from the fediverse for a few days.

I think this take on #Meta joining the #Fediverse is a very good one. We are going to be able to connect to people on Meta's platform, but we are not forced onto it.

I'm not fucking stupid to want to be able to talk to people on Meta's instance. I wan to talk to the PEOPLE there, not Zuckerberg. I wouldn't want to BE on his instance, but I would want to be able to reach it and be reached by it so I can communicate. It's like wanting to talk to friends who may be living in countries we don't get along with. Can we just make them leave? No. But do we just throw them away because of their geographical location? No.

@stux this is a bad move, from all sides

If FB / Meta wanted to sow distrust before the coming 2024 US election, then they have succeeded, by creating infighting between instances, so none of us can organize.

The classic move in chinese fiction, is when a dying rich person whisper a nothing burger to someone he hates, right in front of everyone, to let them murder each other.

This is the time when every instances should actually come together instead.All admins should sit down and talk.
