@kensanata My favourite time as a GM has been 2 players, but they admittedly get on very well and are just straight-up funny. I've played in larger games, and I feel like eventually you end up with people crowded out so 3-4 is probably the sweet spot.
I also much prefer smaller groups for snappy decision-making. Not sure if this is just bad luck, but I haven't played in a game where every player wasn't putting forward different ideas about the party's next move.
@TheGiantBrain Aside from my previous post...
Advice for portraying vices during play. Suffering from them is a very important part of gaining XP. Examples of this would be good. For me, there feels a conflict between waiting for the GM to offer you these opportunities, shoe-horning them in, or actively hindering your fellow players which can feel at risk of the "well it's what my character would do!" attitude.
@TheGiantBrain It feels like there's been a carry-over of what success/failure looks like from D20-style systems. For instance, attempting to convince someone with a partial success has the GM often asking for more work/another roll to convince them.
Maybe conversation with group needed to say we need to be painting with broader strokes
@Judd Yeah that type of play would feel a bit more natural. I think the basic action should always succeed, but the 'aim' of the action is what can fail or have differing consequences.
Might need to discuss with group
Any recommendations for Blades in the Dark actual plays? I'm finding the game incredibly hard to get into as a player. Coming up with a heist and expecting the GM to deliver there and then seems so hard for them. Are actions meant to be more broad in their effects?
There's quite a few times where "I sprint at the guard and try to take him unaware" turns into a partial success and we're in a brawl, to a fail/partial success...still in a brawl... taking harm...
@jasonmoore Was my 3rd ever board game. Totally novice to scene, went to the store, saw and bought it wanting a Roman politics cutthroat game.
Couldn't have been more mistaken in that purchase, but it's one of my favourite designs to date and possibly one of my most played games
