Any recommendations for Blades in the Dark actual plays? I'm finding the game incredibly hard to get into as a player. Coming up with a heist and expecting the GM to deliver there and then seems so hard for them. Are actions meant to be more broad in their effects?

There's quite a few times where "I sprint at the guard and try to take him unaware" turns into a partial success and we're in a brawl, to a fail/partial success...still in a brawl... taking harm...

@Pathos

Sprint at guard, partial success.

You take the guard out but it makes a little bit of noise, not enough to set off the alarm but the Alarm Clock takes a tick.

Don't have an AP at hand. Will look...

@Judd Yeah that type of play would feel a bit more natural. I think the basic action should always succeed, but the 'aim' of the action is what can fail or have differing consequences.

Might need to discuss with group

@Pathos

Context is absolutely everything.

Maybe the area has barbed spikes and you mentioned that the guards look thick and strong. Success with a cost is taking a bit of damage. The guard struggled and you took a barbed spike in the back.

How do you keep from screaming out from the pain?

There are lots of options, which can be overwhelming. I get it. Takes practice.
