British Museum ~ Citole c. 1300-30

Having seen this famous English medieval instrument before, it was still a surprise to look more closely and see a dragon with green eyes forming part of its rich decoration on the peg box. Absolutely superb carving!

Love the angel corbels on the magnificent c.1500 chancel screen and the way numerous careful repairs over the centuries has produced an array of tones in the wood.

An early 15th century alabaster depicting the Resurrection of Christ. Produced in England, the alabaster is now part of the collections at the Burrell Collection in Glasgow. 📸 My own. #Easter #BurrellCollection #medieval

Good to see you 😉

#DragonsInChurches I was immediately drawn to the turquoise dragon in the East window in St Michael's, Highworth, Wiltshire.

1937, by Caroline Townshend & Joan Howson. I will look out for more of their work in the future.

Devonport Leat, Dartmoor, Devon

One of two aquaducts on this leat, constructed in the 1790s to carry fresh drinking water from the high ground of Dartmoor to the expanding dockyards at Plymouth Dock (later renamed Devonport). Superceded by Burrator reservoir, although some water from the leat is diverted into it.
