St. Paul’s Church at Jarrow in Tyne and Wear. The tower was built between the 9th and 12th centuries, with the nave rebuilt by George Gilbert-Scott in the 1860s. The chancel, however, is part of the original Anglo-Saxon monastery. 📸 My own. #ScreenSaturday #StPauls #Jarrow

Love the angel corbels on the magnificent c.1500 chancel screen and the way numerous careful repairs over the centuries has produced an array of tones in the wood.
