Senior Operations Manager

Location: Remote (Preference for candidates within ±5 hours of EST) Reports To: Executive Director Salary Range: $95,000 – $120,000 USD annually Type: Full-time, Remote Applications are open until April 28th. About Us Open Source Collective is a membership-based nonprofit fiscal host that supports over 2,500 open source projects by providing financial and operational infrastructure. Each year, we help move more than $20 million in funding, making it easier for project contributors and maintainers to focus on their code and community. Our mission is to promote a sustainable and healthy ecosystem to sustain open source technology for the future. That’s where you come in. The Role We’re seeking a thoughtful, strategic problem-solver who brings empathy to systems thinking and process improvement. As our Senior Operations Manager, you'll lead across three core operational pillars: Finances, Support, and Operational Efficiency. This is a proactive, senior individual contributor role ideal for someone who thrives in a remote, asynchronous work environment and enjoys streamlining systems, supporting communities, and financial sustainability. You don’t need to be an expert in both open source or nonprofits, but it helps if you have experience in either and are excited to support a global network of projects doing meaningful work. Role Responsibilities Financial Operations In partnership with our Directors, oversee accounting practices/processes and reporting systems to ensure accurate, timely financial and tax reporting Develop and refine tools for budget tracking, financial planning, and transparency Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and close financial process gaps and document processes and needs with the platform developers Community & Project Support Respond to complex operational inquiries from hosted projects Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve support tickets and improve documentation Advocate for user needs while balancing organizational capacity Operational Systems & Efficiency Design and maintain systems that streamline internal workflows Identify areas for operational improvement and develop scalable solutions Build lightweight reporting and tracking tools or integrate data between systems using platforms like Airtable, Zapier, Notion, a SQL-based reporting tool, or others Must-have skills At least 5 years of experience in operations, finance, or systems roles Experience creating or managing operational tools and internal databases Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills Proven ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a remote, distributed team Practical and pragmatic, great at seeking input, finding the path forward, and measuring success Collaborative and detail-oriented, with a focus on documenting work for clarity and resilience Comfortable balancing nonprofit compliance with a fast-moving, adaptable work culture. We prioritize timely action and progress with purpose. Nice-to-have experience (These are a bonus, not a requirement—please apply even if you don’t check every box) Passion for open source and alignment with our mission Community management or user support background Familiarity with tools like Discord, Slack, Metabase, Google Workspace, Notion, and GitHub Experience with Open Collective (extra credit!) Compensation & role details This is a fully remote position (we don't have any physical offices, and our team is distributed across time zones) Flexible schedule (we have a few weekly meetings, and the rest is up to you) Open to applicants anywhere within 5 hours of the EST time zone. The pay range will be $95k ~ $120k plus benefits. Pay scale is contingent on experience. This is a full-time position, and we are seeking someone to commit 40 hours per week 25 days off for vacation + location specific holidays $1K per year for improving your workspace, buying tools, and other office expenses that help you perform better. The opportunity to join us on international retreats (weeks of face-to-face work every ~6 months) with transportation, allocation, and meals covered during our time together.
