@markmiller maybe at a technical level but I don’t see it happening any time soon. The Good/Better/Best tier trio is well defined right now, and given the role of personal device you use for everything, I don’t see them wanting to launch any phone without AppleInt. Apple has never chased the market all the way to the bottom, there’s always gonna be room for a bare bones iPhone at the bottom but I don’t see Apple chasing after those users since they probably don’t pay for service subs either.

@unsaturated think way back to your B&I days. I can recall at least two OS builds that didn’t boot or behaved oddly due to single bit memory errors on the compile machines, which as you know were mostly janky old desktop machines. So it definitely happens it just isn’t always terrible when it does.
@markmiller yeah but the 16E almost certainly needed to have AppleInt available. Low end iPad doesn’t need it as much for how they position that product. I continue to sit on the belief that 16E represents the floor of what an AppleInt device can be right now.

@enhancedscurry I’ve always been under the impression that it’s blocked out for screenshots deep in the rendering pipeline because that’s also the best place to prevent screen recording of DRM content from working. That is, screenshots are blocked for free, and no one particularly cares to change that.
