“Wood smoke is astonishingly harmful. Though only 8% of households in the UK (mostly wealthy ones) have a wood-burning stove, they release more small particulates (the most dangerous pollutants) than all the vehicles on the road. Even a modern, approved, “eco-friendly” wood burner produces 750 times as many fine particulates as a heavy goods vehicle.”

My burning shame: I fitted my house with three wood-burning stoves

Wood burners are awful for the environment and flood our homes with toxins, too. I wish I’d known that in 2008, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Do I have this right…conservatives love free speech for Elon Musk, but hate free speech for Colin Kaepernick?

Me: We need to stand United for justice for all people. You’re entitled to your personal religious or political beliefs—but those beliefs don’t supersede the requirement of equal access to justice for Black and brown people, women, immigrants, faith minorities, LGBTQ people, low income people, or people with disabilities.

Troll: You had me until lgbtq

Me: So here’s how this works. Either you champion equal access to justice for all people—or you’re on the wrong side of history. Choose justice.

This is the best thing ever 😂

Who did this?? 🤣

Trump is in business with the Saudis

Elon Musk co-owns Twitter with the Saudis

Steve Mnuchin is in a $1 billion with the Saudis

Jared Kushner is in a $2 billion business with the Saudis

Ever notice how it’s the biggest traitors who are lapping up all that Saudi blood money?

In its original literal sense, "moral relativism" is simply moral complexity. That is, anyone who agrees that stealing a loaf of bread to feed one's children is not the moral equivalent of, say, shoplifting a dress for the fun of it, is a relativist of sorts. But in recent years, conservatives bent on reinstating an essentially religious vocabulary of absolute good and evil as the only legitimate framework for discussing social values have redefined "relative" as "arbitrary". -Ellen Jane Willis
There are two kinds of light -- the glow that illuminates, and the glare that obscures. -James Thurber

Rim-Lit Red.

During the winter months in Scotland, when the sun remains low in the sky, it can cast shards of light through a woodland, lighting parts up, leaving the rest in shade.

Here I used such light, and exposed for it (not the overall scene as my eyes were seeing it) to get this effect, showing just the illuminated rim of the squirrel's fur, and nothing much else.

Thanks for all the fantastic comments, likes and boosts on my images. Very humbling. 😊

A mastodon month and I've become used to the kindness, friendliness and varied interests of those I've met. Gone is the snark (and the fear of worse) of the other place. Gone too are the views pushed at me by algorithms and the adverts for stuff I'll never want or need. I like the chat in the background, the opportunity to open the door from my wee corner to see (from time to time) what's happening elsewhere in the Fediverse. I hope the ethos remains. Life is calmer and more fascinating now.
