Writer, educator, and concerned human from the mountains of Southern Appalachia.

I'm six years older than Joe Biden, and I just did months of performances on stage in London, 8x a week.

Age is a state of mind and body, and Joe is just fine, as am I. It's that other guy with the orange foundation who seems feebleminded and unhealthy.

Things just seem so crazy today.
I mean, can you imagine say in the 1930s if the richest automobile executive in America was also a media owner who used his platform to encourage anti-Semitism and allied himself with a foreign dictator waging a territory-expansion war in Europe?
I would very happily agree to a reinstatement of Godwin’s Law regarding Hitler references but first YOU M-FERS NEED TO STOP PRIVATELY COLLECTING HITLER MEMORABILIA TO SHOW TO YOUR FRIENDS WHO ARE RACISTS AND/OR BELIEVE IN COUPS TO OVERTURN ELECTIONS.
Deeply troubling story that I think should make it clearer at the top that this about a bunch of racist, snowflake goons terrorizing a bakery and its young employees because they did a nice thing. https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2023/03/10/red-truck-bakery-protests-warrenton/
A Va. bakery gave BLM activists free coffee. Then came the backlash.

Red Truck Bakery closed for three days after protesters harassed the shop, alleging it was catering to BLM activists but not those allied with All Lives Matter.

A politician using state power to try to control what is taught in higher education - what would you say if you saw it in another country? https://twitter.com/jdmortenson/status/1628984073128448002?s=20

“I tend to take claims like these with a grain of salt. But I just went line-by-line through the DeSantis education bill. And you guys, it’s *bananas*. A road map for wrecking one of our great state systems of higher education. 🧵 1/”

There really is no equivalent dynamics on the American left. It's not like the New Republic is worried that they're going to lose subscribers to Jacobin if they aren't mean enough about Pete Buttigieg or something.

Our pundit class is so used to taking seriously the non-existent slippery slope that supposedly leads directly from liberal policies to Venezuela, that we've largely ignored the slippery slope from conservatism to fascism that's been there the entire time. https://twitter.com/SethCotlar/status/1172884870978080769?s=20

“These centrists look at Warren & see a Stalin in embryo, but they look at Donald Trump (and the white nationalists he's emboldened) and just see a standard Republican who maybe uses intemperate language. The centrists' dangerous slippery slope only ever leans left.”

Ron DeSantis is requesting medical records of trans students

6 of 12 universities are confirmed to have complied with the request, regardless of HIPAA violations

If a liberal did anything similar, you’d head right wing media talking nonstop about their freedom being violated.

But for some reason, if you attack our at-risk communities or apply the word “woke” then fascism is a-ok.

A little over a week late, but over two years sober from alcohol now. I was at a point then where I longed to catch a whiff of where hope had recently been just to know hope was still in the world.

If I can come back, there's still hope. If you or anyone you know is struggling, I'm more than happy to talk, provide resources, anything.

One of the funniest interactions I see online, is when Americans think it's inspirational that a young white US child is raising money not to buy themselves something, but to pay off their less privileged classmates' "school lunch debt."

US readers are like 🤗"Oh that's so precious! That sweet kid has a good heart!"

And EU readers are like 😮"Wait a minute... Go back a few steps... WTF is school lunch debt?! That's a real thing?! What is wrong with your country?!"
