Just to put my two cents in the jar, I don't think QTs are good or bad, the people who use them are. If there's a tool that can be used maliciously, someone will do so, but that doesn't make the tool evil. If someone's using them to harass people, they probably would have harassed them anyways, just using a different tool. Turns out there's no easy solution to hate.
I get depressed when I watch what I know is at least a left-leaning channel promote a scam, or something approaching a scam. Because I know they need income, and a lot of the sponsors for small channels are really shady. So they go with the least-scammy sponsor they can find, but... yeah. Still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Linking the video because I still think it's worth a watch, if only because it serves as a good timeline of how gaming has gone downhill.

What Went Wrong with Gaming?

YouTube
It's kinda painful watching Josh Strife Hayes ponder for 30 minutes over what went wrong with gaming, and not come to the realization that it's maybe the fault of our economic system. It's amazing how close he comes to an anti-capitalist critique and then just goes... "Well this is just the way it is, it's the fault of bad individuals, not the system itself."
So fun fact I learned, translation browser extensions work with Mastodon. They're not the *best* translations in the world, but they at least get the point across.

Thinking about the ‘if Elon cured cancer people would still hate him’ tweet.

He has the means to end world hunger and doesn’t. We don’t hate imaginary philanthropist Musk because we know he could never exist.

If I could steal ONE feature from the bird app to give to Mastodon, it would be to add Google translate. I hate missing out on toots from non-English speakers. Yeah, I can technically run them through manually, but that's an extra step added onto every single toot, and it may not even be something I'm interested in.
By the way, hello to all the new followers, especially those who didn't find me through Twitter. For the introduction, I'm just your average trans girl math teacher. I talk about politics a lot, although I don't align myself with any specific political philosophy, just generally anti-capitalist and anti-fascist. My hobbies are mostly gaming. I'm currently working my way through my master's degree in math education.

I think the problem with this world is that it only takes maybe a minute to hate someone. Having compassion, on the other hand, takes time and understanding. It takes effort and desire to come to truly understand someone.

And that's not even getting into the issue of people being inherently flawed. It's just way easier to hate someone for being flawed than to try and convince them to be better.
