@KeithDevlin Austin, Texas, where I live, would no doubt like to ban assault weapons.

The Toronto Star just published my op-ed calling on the #CBC to run its own Mastodon/fediverse server:

Opinion | Why the CBC should quit Twitter and run its own Mastodon server

Elon Musk’s decision to label the CBC as “government funded” is a good catalyst for public broadcasters to join the fediverse.

@dkellyj Gorgeous.
Good move by Washington State. That just leaves Oregon as the last remaining modern economic powerhouse state without such a ban. (We can write-off Texas, their recent move to ban tenure at universities is economic suicide.) https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/04/25/washington-state-assault-weapons-ban-guns/
Washington state bans sale of assault weapons, including AR-15s

Gov. Jay Inslee signed the bill into law, making Washington the 10th state with restrictions on such firearms.

Is there a climate change/environmental server on Mastodon?
I'm new to Mastodon. A bit more complex than Twitter. A question: If you're on a server, do you get all of the posts from that server or only the ones that you follow? LIkewise, where are your own posts posted? Just to followers--like Twitter?
I'm surprised that a climate change server doesn't exist yet. Do you think there would be enough interest in to get followers? Plus, I'm not sure how one develops followers on Mastodon. Is it like Twitter? Start with your offline contacts?

That Donald Trump feels able to run for president *again* after everything, after *everything*, is a massive indictment of both the American political and legal systems, as well as much of the American media.

A massive, massive indictment.

Consider it a bit like moving house. At first, you bring all your old stuff across from the other place, and use that to cook with - to sleep and sit on. But soon you see that you need a different style - new drapes - a fresh start. The transition is a prelude to the next, better thing, not a tribute to the old. x
