I loved being a guest again on the SERP's Up podcast, my favourite SEO #podcast hosted by the awesome @CrystalontheWeb and @MordyOberstein.

In this episode we discuss whether #SEO should be considered part of #marketing, or if it has a wider scope and shouldn't be constrained within a single organisational discipline.

Listen carefully and you may be able to spot where my profanity was cleverly edited out in post-production.

Where does SEO fit in? Is it part of IT? Marketing? Does it even matter?

I think the web is in for a major shift bec of AI but I don't necessarily think this is unnatural/evil

It will be difficult for sure- much the way cable TV made it difficult for the folks manufacturing rabbit ear antennas

But I do think new opportunities will emerge as well.

Just listening to the latest episode and something I noticed in the Wix webcast last night thats bugging me again in this podcast - Mordy keeps dropping his 'T's ! Instead of Brighton, he said Brian.

I'm creased up.

It always comes down to costs. Either Closed or Open systems all have a set of dependencies to initially build what you need, and then run it. I wrote the CMS specs for HSBC several times back in the day – months of work to get a balanced overhead view on what systems we should use. IT support was a massive part - was there a dev base they could recruit from for each. Would the business be able to manage content or would it take a dedicated team etc.

@MordyOberstein @danielle_r @seth @simoncox FWIW I don't think open vs closed has an inherent answer; a neglected platform on either side sucks terribly for people who rely on it. Sometimes you can fix an open platform yourself, most people can't.

Copy & pasting your online content to a new platform is painful, but you won't be the first, nor the last, to do so.
