It's heartbreaking, but because of this abuse I will stop using Mastodon, I will stop posting new content, in all the accounts I control, and I will look into other ways of communications, and I will do my best to stop people from using this fucking shit!

Social media never ceases to disappoint me. It truly sucks! Paradoxically, all social media is the doom of information, truth, and freedom.

They even banned other account I had created, under the same type of description & disclosures, for @[email protected], a podcast from WNYC I am a big fan of.

Still not satisfied, the zealots & overlords also restricted another account I had created for @MedicosCubanos, pointing to & verified, for MedicosCubanos.com, a site I own & operate for almost 20 years! Totally absurd & indiscriminate punishment.

These abuses & zeal will not allow Mastodon to grow & take on Twitter & more

After all, it does not matter if the abuse of power and silencing of dissent comes from a egomaniac anti-democratic billionaire, or someone else with their own egos, vendettas, and pleasure trampling over others.

If citing other legitimate news sources was somehow deemed not appropriate here, why not just issue a warning and a recommendation about it? The outright banning of the account, without warning nor other recourse, seems out of line with the alleged violation, it seems dictatorial, punitive, following someone’s vendetta, very Twitter/Musk-like.

If you read this article, you realize this is not marketing, nor spam, this is news, from a legitimate and generally well-regarded medical site (as stated before the main volunteer operating this Mastodon account is a SW Engineer and also a licensed MD). This particular post is even more relevant given the huge misinformation and lies regarding COVID, vaccines, and medical info in general, this article does not sell anything

This account was growing fast in user followers, at ~1k/week. People were even posting they were happy, pleased with the content, frequency, and that NPR (albeit unofficial, as stated in the bio) was here on Mastodon.

Then Jeff Brown shows up (@jeff), a self-proclaimed news profiteer, started to complaint about this, used a post I made from Medscape, a reputable medical site, to apparently trigger the outright ban of the account, without even a warning nor recommendation first

So, I setup few automated RSS feeds, all from NPR, posting to this account, in effect mirroring their newsfeed. Occasionally, in slow news periods, I would scan other reputable news sources (The Washington Post, Wired, ProPublica, medical sites like AMA’s, Medscape) and manually post their article under this account, but always linking directly to their article and webpage, never redirecting nor masquerading it in any way.
